Designed in collaboration with the project client.
Perched on a steep, rugged landscape with limited space to utilise within a bushfire prone area, this residence pushed the limits of design. Similar to a kookaburra, this rural home nests itself quietly taking in the South-East facing views over Barmaryee’s fields. Designed with raw, simple, highly durable materials with a natural color palette, it seamlessly compliments its natural surroundings whilst offering lasting protection to potential bushfire exposure.
Designed with efficiency and resilience in mind, this home minimizes material waste by carefully considering site constraints, material sizing and exposure to bushfire elements. Full sheets of cladding, uncut blockwork, and full-length timber columns reduce waste, while minimal cut-and-fill enhances sustainability. Every detail reflects a commitment to smart, resilient, resource-conscious design.
Did you know?
In many of the old Tarzan movies, they used recordings of the laughing kookaburra's call for jungle sounds, even though this bird is native to Australia and nowhere near Africa.
